Women typically do not have beards because of hormonal differences between men and women. Testosterone, the male sex hormone, stimulates the growth of facial hair, including beards. Women have lower levels of testosterone, which results in less facial hair growth. Additionally, genetics also play a role in determining the amount and distribution of facial hair, and women generally have genetic factors that result in less facial hair growth. **

Ultimately, the presence or absence of a beard does not determine an imam's qualifications or abilities to lead their community. **
